Course Expectations:

 

Welcome to 2021-2022 Instrumental Music Strings class!

 

This year you will continue your study of stringed instrument performance on Violin, Viola, Cello, and/or Bass through daily rehearsals and music activities and assignments designed to strengthen you as a musician. You will experience growth in string performance technique, musicianship, endurance, ensemble playing, music theory, music appreciation, and music technology applications.

High School Winter Concert

 

Wednesday, December 15th, 7:30 p.m. 

 

Mandatory Dress Rehearsal: Wednesday, December 8th, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

 

High School Spring Concert

 

Thursday, June 2nd, 7:30 p.m.

 

Mandatory Dress Rehearsal: Wednesday, May 25th, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

 

 

 

Extravaganza 

 

Tuesday, June 7th  (rain date June 8th) 6:00-8:30 p.m. at RMS Complex

 

Course Goals:

 

Practice your instrument on a daily basis

 

Learning orchestra literature for string ensemble and full orchestra

 

Learning to perform in tune with a beautiful tone

 

Perform with the correct posture and strength

 

Learning and understanding key signatures, time signatures, and string articulations

 

Learning and performing scales and arpeggios with various bowings 

 

Learning to mark music efficiently like a professional

 

Turning in every assignment on time 

 

Grading:

 

Participation grade is daily

 

Attendance at mandatory rehearsals

 

Scale tests

 

Technical exercises assessments 

 

Concert repertoire assessments 

 

Class Preparation:

 

Please be prepared for class every day with your instrument, music and supplies needed for your instrument. Phones will be off and away in your bag. When you are seated for class, tune carefully and set up your iPad with scale studies. As soon as you can, start warming up on the scales assigned or the ones we are working on. Your music should be on the iPad for ease of portability specifically for home practice. Classroom and concert repertoire will be shared electronically in Google Drive.

 

 

 

 

Middle School Instrumental Music

 

Rohrer Middle School Morning Music - STRING ENSEMBLE 

 

Teacher: Mrs. Van Buren

 

Class Time: 7:40-8:15 a.m.

 

Place: High School Auditorium (HS130)

 

String players have the opportunity at Rohrer Middle School to perform in the String Ensemble. Strings class meets 5 days a week for all students. 

 

You receive a grade on your report card every marking period for Morning Music String Ensemble. Be prepared every day with your instrument, concert music, a pencil and your iPad. Being ON TIME every day (7:40) counts as a percentage of your grade.

 

Concert Attendance is mandatory! Here are the dates you need to know for future planning:
